Diyarbakır’ın fethi sırasında şehit olan Halid Bin Velid’in oğlu Süleyman dahil 27 sahabe bu bölgede, 13 sahabe ise surların farklı bir yerinde şehit oldu. Yaralanan Sultan Sasa’nın da 6 ay sonra şehit olmasıyla birlikte bölgeye toplam 41 sahabe defnedildi. Diyarbakır’da mezar yerleri kesin olarak bilinen 30 sahabenin 27’sinin kabri bu camidedir. 27 şehit sahabenin kabirleri Türkiye’nin her yerinden ziyaretçi akınına uğramaktadır.
